Walter Ostrander

Walter Eugene Ostrander, Gower, MO was 91 years old when he passed away to his heavenly home on May 19, 2024. 

He was born March 11, 1933, to Edward Morgan Ostrander and Martha Elizabeth (Kreuzburg) Ostrander and was the oldest of 6 children. Two of his siblings, Daniel Elton Ostrander and William Earl Ostrander, preceded him in death. His remaining siblings include James Edward Ostrander, Delores Elaine (Ostrander) Mason and Sherry Evelyn (Ostrander) Lehman-Bittfield.

He grew up in Hiawatha, KS and was in the Kansas Army National Guard. Walter retired from Union Pacific Railroad after over 42 years of service. He was an avid golfer and had 2 hole-in-one’s, one at Duncan Hills in Savannah and one in Arizona. Walter and Dorothy enjoyed traveling to Arizona for the winters. He also enjoyed watching football, especially the EB Bulldogs. Walter was a man of faith and he loved spending time with his family. 

He married Dorothy Irene (Jackson) Ostrander on June 5, 1955, and celebrated 61 years of marriage prior to her death on July 1, 2016. They were blessed with a son Steven Walter Ostrander (wife – Debra) of Gower, MO and a daughter Deborah Ann (Ostrander) Wallace (husband – David) of Lee’s Summit, MO. Also surviving are his seven grandchildren – Dayna (Luke) Rogers, Danielle (Tyler) Wainscott, Darcy Wallace, Alyssa (Nate) Jarrett, Darrell (Jessica) Wallace, Darren (Shelby) Wallace and Aaron Ostrander. Thirteen great-grandchildren – Carson, Jaxson, and Kaitlyn Rogers, Kinsley, Emberlyn, Delaney and Hudson Wainscott, Troy, Dayton, and Jase Jarrett, Bennett and Liam Wallace, and one due in October 2024.  Sister-in-laws Mary (Jackson) Nelson, Nadine (Jackson) Karrasch, LaDonna (Jackson) Buchler Corey, Betty (Jackson) Kerns and husband Wayne, and Evelyn (Jackson) Thomas, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation 10:00-11:00 a.m. with Funeral Services at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 28th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower

Burial: Hiawatha Cemetery, Hiawatha, KS
