In Remembrance Of

Thom Barrett
Thomas Francis Barrett, 80, of Smithville, Missouri, passed away on September 3, 2026. He was born on May 2, 1946, in New Haven, Connecticut, to Robert and Anna (McSherry) Barrett.
Thom proudly served in the United States Air Force as a jet mechanic, stationed at Plattsburgh, New York, where he met the love of his life, Terri. They married in New York, welcomed their daughter Kelly, and moved to Kansas City in 1970.
Thom graduated from UMKC and worked as a lawn and garden buyer for Payless Cashways and Builders Square. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to open Green Circle Hydroponics Garden Center in 1992. He was a man ahead of his time, always embracing new trends, ideas, and technology.
Thom had a lifelong love of music, working for David Beatty Hi-Fi and took great pride in his stereo systems. He also loved fishing and the outdoors. In 1989, the family moved to Smithville, MO where he enjoyed countless days boating and fishing on Smithville Lake.
Thom shared a very special bond with his grandson, Chase. They loved joking around, playing pranks on each other, and always making each other laugh.
His strong faith in God guided him throughout his life.
Thom was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Anna (McSherry) Barrett; his brother, Bobby Barrett; and his niece, Kathy Hardy.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Terri (Romes) Barrett; daughter, Kelly Ann Barrett; grandson, Chase Barrett Holtzman; sisters, Mary Barrett and Peggy Barrett; brother, Jack Barrett, and his wife, Mary; and extended family and friends.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. May he rest peacefully in the presence of God.
A celebration of Thomβs life will be held at a later date.
