Richard Powell
The family of Richard Bourke Powell is deeply saddened to share of his passing on July 22nd, 2026 at the age of 59.
Richard was born on July 22nd, 1967 at Reynolds Army Hospital in Fort Sill, Oklahoma to Linda (Andre) and Joel Powell, and attended Platte County High School in Platte City, MO. He is remembered loving fast cars and the Kansas City Chiefs, fishing with his dad Joel, and hunting for deer, wild birds, and morel mushrooms. He loved tending to his garden of flowers and vegetables, and loved his dogs Cutie Pie, Charlie Brown, and Little Bit.
He retired after twenty-nine years of hard work in the Mid-America Carpenters Union of Kansas City. In high school, he was the nose guard for the Platte City Pirates and known lovingly as “Boog” by his friends and peers. He was always willing to help someone in need, and known for his kindness and sense of humor.
He is survived by his son Richi Powell, mother Linda (Andre) Bauer, sisters Tammie (and spouse Rod) Bollinger and Kamie (and spouse Chris) Gugler, half-sisters Kathy (and spouse Max) Kesner and Pamela (and spouse Whitney) Huff, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Richard’s Celebration of Life will take place at Timeless Event Center in Smithville, MO on Sunday, September 27th from 11:30 AM-3 PM. Guests are invited to stop by and go as they please, and bring a story about Richard if they would like to share one. His loved ones will have the Chiefs vs. Dolphins game playing in his memory.

I first want to extend my deepest condolences to Richard’s family, I first met Richard 30 odd years ago. We were both apprentices in the Carpenters Union. We both worked for Total interiors and we had become friends over that long time frame. We had plans to go fishing and mushroom hunting together, but we never quite made it happen.. Till I see you again old friend travel safely God rest your soul!💔
