In Remembrance Of

Larry Schroeder
Larry Joseph Schroeder, 83, of Platte City, MO passed away September 24, 2025.
Larry was born on May 4, 1942, in Beatrice, Nebraska, to Francis John and Loretta Josephine (Koehler) Schroeder. He grew up in Hanover, Kansas, where he graduated from Hanover High School. Even as a young man, Larry showed the qualities that would define his life: commitment, loyalty, service, and love for his community.
Answering the call of duty, Larry served his country in the United States Air Force. That spirit of service never left him. After his time in the military, he dedicated his professional life to TWA, later retiring from American Airlines. Alongside his career, Larry gave of his time and talents to the North Kansas City community, serving on the City Council and volunteering for youth sports — coaching and supporting little league baseball and basketball, shaping countless young lives with encouragement and example.
Larry also found fellowship and purpose as a member of the Ararat Shriners of Kansas City. Whether it was helping at Bingo nights, supporting the circus, or taking part in the dune buggy group, he found joy in bringing laughter and light to others.
On December 7, 1990, Larry married the love of his life, Sharon Kay. Together, they built a home in Platte City filled with love, laughter, and family. They shared many wonderful memories, often traveling to Branson — where Larry especially loved to golf. Through all the years, their bond was one of deep devotion and companionship.
Larry’s life was a tapestry of service, family, and faith. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Ed Ryser.
Larry is survived by his wife Kay Schroeder; his daughters Tiffany (Doug) Lanman, Terri (Cary) Stronach and Debbie (John) Burkin; grandchildren Rob, Jennifer, Natalie, Taylor, Payton, Brandon, Jacob, and Tanner; six great-grandchildren; his sister Connie Ryser; his brothers-in-law Larry (Sue) Turner and Charlie (Chris) Turner along with extended family and countless friends who will miss him dearly.
Larry lived 83 full years, marked not only by his accomplishments, but by the way he made people feel. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and love.
As we remember Larry, let us hold close the lessons he taught us — to serve others selflessly, to find joy in community, to cherish family, and to live with gratitude for every moment. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in all who knew and loved him.
May we honor his memory by carrying forward his example of service and love.
Visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with Funeral Services with Military Honors at 11:00 Thursday, October 2nd at the First Baptist Church of Platte City.
Private family burial will be held at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to The First Baptist Church of Platte City or the Parkville Women’s Clinic.

Kay, I am so sorry to hear of Larry’s passing. We worked together at TWA and again when it became AA. We also enjoyed playing softball for many years. Rest assured that he is sitting at the right hand of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
“Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there.
I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow.
I Am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight.
On ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn’s rain.
When you awaken in the morning: hush, I am the swift
Uplifting rush of quiet birds in circle flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there. . .Goodbye.

What a wonderful great grandpa he was to my student, Princeton. I’m so sorry for the loss of your wise and faithful patriarch. Larry is in Heaven with his Savior, and I pray this comforts you. God bless you all.

Larry was a heck of a guy with a smile and laugh that could light up any room. We always joked about me having “paperwork” for him, but now the Lord has the final paperwork ready—his safe passage into Heaven. Rest easy, brother
