In Remembrance Of

Janearl Shatto
Janearl Ray (Bahr) Shatto, 89, of Plattsburg, MO passed away, April 11, 2026
She was born on September 26, 1936, to Raymond and Alberta Bahr in Carroll County, MO.
Janearl met Robert Lee Shatto in Carrollton, MO and were married in Batesville, AR on November 22, 1952. Together they enjoyed a few years of military life in Limestone, Maine, a new home in Independence, MO, a short job transfer to California, back to Independence and finally purchasing their dream farm in Clinton County, MO (Lilly). Through the years Janearl was very active. She helped raise sheep, chickens, cows, pigs, and rabbits, all while raising five children. She loved being outdoors, but she was no stranger to the kitchen. Her apple pie, tea rings, canned vegetables, and many savory dishes were all made with much love.
Janearl and Robert took their children on many trips both on TWA passes to far away places and shorter camping trips.
After the children were grown, they continued their travels and enjoyed many trips with their children and grandchildren. She always wanted her children to have a swimming pool and she finally got one. She took care of it for many years, and all the grandchildren loved spending time swimming and playing water volleyball with her.
Janearl was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James Otto and Raymond, Jr; sister, Betty Lou Heavener; grandsons, Benjamin Shatto and Kyle Shatto.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; children, Robert Leroy (Gina) Shatto, Kathy (Steve) Caldwell, Chester (Tresa) Shatto, and Sandra (Ron) Johnson, and Ron (Sherri) Shatto; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 20th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home in Smithville with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Burial: Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.
Donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice.
