Gordon “Sonny” Baker
Gordon Harold Baker, Jr., “Sonny” 88, of Platte City, MO passed away September 2, 2025.
He was born on January 26, 1937, to Gordon Harold Baker, Sr., and Verda Mae (Porter) Baker in Platte City, MO where he grew up and graduated from High School in 1955.
On October 6, 1957, he was united in marriage to Carloyn June White. After their marriage they lived in rural Platte City, MO on the farm where they raised their family and made their home. Carolyn passed away on May 3, 2024.
Sonny purchased his first farm when he was 14 years old and was a lifelong farmer. Soon after the purchase of his farm, he traded his saxophone in for his first car. His son Curtis joined Sonny working on the farm where he was employed for over 45 years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Platte City, the Jaycees, and the Lions Club. He was also a past chairman and served on the ASCS Board for several years. Sonny enjoyed spending time whenever he could with his family and loved getting to see his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and taking them on rides on the combine or tractor. He also enjoyed fishing, frequenting local establishments and visiting with his many, many friends.
Sonny was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Baker and his parents Gordon and Verda Baker.
He is survived by his children Harold Baker and wife Julie, Lori Sherry and husband Devin, and Curtis Baker; grandchildren Chris Mackey, Danny (Jen) Mackey, Brandon (Kaitlyn) Sherry, and Kaleb (Christina) Sherry; eight great-grandchildren; other relatives and many, many friends.
Visitation 12:00-1:00 p.m. with Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 16th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.
