Walter Porter

Walter Porter, 65 of Smithville, MO passed away, Thursday February 7, 2013.

 

He was born on August 7, 1947 to Dewey and Nellie (Erwin) Porter in Smithville, MO where he grew up and graduated high school.  Walter farmed in Smithville.  He loved playing with his dog, Rinnie.

 

Walter was a long time member of Family Worship Center of Smithville and served as the church custodian. He had the joy of participating on two missions trips to build churches. His first trip out of the country was to El Tambo, Ecuador, a town high in the Andes Mountains. His second trip was to Bogota, Colombia. During both trips Walter made lasting friendships with his American team members, and with the folks he met in Ecuador and Colombia.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Rebecca Porter Mueller.

 

Walter is survived by his sister, Donna Cummings and husband Dennis; brother-in-law, J.R. Mueller; nieces and nephews, Denny Cummings, Willie Cummings, Karen Cummings, and Jeffery Cummings.

 

Funeral Services:  11:00 a.m. Monday., February 11th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville with visitation one hour prior to the service. 

Burial:  Smithville Memorial Cemetery

    So sorry to hear about this. walter was a loved member of the community and will miss him greatly. will miss him at orschelns. he was always there to help you and always a friendly face. also will miss him and his buddy coming in to eat each sunday at the dinner bell. he was a great guy.
