Walt E. Vaughn
Walt E. Vaughn, 67, of Smithville, MO, passed away, Wednesday, June 11, 2008.
He was born on July 30, 1940 to Walter Elliott and Helen Frances (Ridgeway) Vaughn in Jackson, Georgia. Walt graduated from Southwest Dekalb High School in 1958. He then served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
On May 27, 1961 he was united in marriage to Norma Jean “Jeanie” Wilson in Lawrenceville, Georgia. In 1967 they moved to Smithville where they made their home. His wife, Jeanie, passed away, July 13, 2007.
Walt was as an electrical lineman at the Georgia Power Company, and in 1967 he began working for TWA in Kansas City, where he was a member of the Machinist Union Local 1650. He retired from TWA in 2004 as a Lead Electrician, after 40 years of service.
He was a member of the Smithville United Methodist Church. Walt was also a member of the American Legion Post 58 in Smithville and the VFW.
Walt was also preceded in death by his father and one brother, Max Lanier Vaughn.
He is survived by his daughters, Suzy Vaughn and Debbie Shoaf, both of Smithville, and Noela Grant of Maroochydore, Australia; mother, Helen Vaughn and sister, Linda Sammons, both of Hiram, GA; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 16th at the Smithville United Methodist Church in Smithville.
Burial with Military Honors: I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Smithville.
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.
