VIRGINIA SUMMERS

Virginia Summers, 87 , of Paradise, MO, passed away, Monday, March 6, 2006 at the Gower Convalescent Center.

She was born on November 22, 1918 to Thomas Clinton and Myrtle Sarah (Lowman) Hanks in rural Platte County, MO. Virginia graduated from Smithville High School in 1937.

On April 6, 1940 she was united in marriage to Buster Summers. After their marriage they lived near Paradise where they farmed for many years. Her husband, Buster, passed away on August 10, 2001.

Virginia went to work in 1956 at Smithville Community Hospital in the obstetrics unit caring for the newborn babies. She later worked as a ward clerk at the hospital, retiring in the 1980s.

She was a longtime member of the Paradise Christian Church, and in recent years a member of the Smithville Christian Church.

Virginia was also preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, J.C., Glenn, Clifford, Harrol, Bob, and son-in-law, Dale Roberts.

She is survived by one son, Tom Summers and wife, Joan, St. Joseph, MO, two daughters, Susan Clower and husband, Steve, Smithville, MO, and Janice Roberts, Smithville, MO, five granddaughters, Emily Summers, Stephanie Simon, Ashley Summers, Natalie Wolf, and Jessica Roberts, one grandson, Grant Roberts, and brother, Ward Hanks, Smithville, MO, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services: 4:30 p.m. Today, March 8th at the Smithville Christian Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial: I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Smithville, MO
