VIRGINIA O. KEPLER
Virginia Olive Kepler, 97, of Gower, MO, formerly of Wagoner, OK, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at the Gower Convalescent Center.
She was born in Altoona, KS, to Hendrix and Floy Blue on August 29, 1908. Virginia attended school in Altoona, graduating from high school in 1926. She attended the college of Emporia, known as C of E, where she received her Public School Music Teaching Certificate. She taught in Kansas schools for five years before marrying Floyd Kepler on May 31, 1933. They made their home in Tulsa, OK, where Floyd was employed.
After their two children, Jon and Anne were of school age, Virginia did substitute teaching in music and was also a school accompanist in Tulsa schools for 17 years.
In 1971 they moved to Wagoner, OK, where Virginia transferred her membership from First Christian Church in Tulsa to the First Christian Church in Wagoner. She became active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship, was choir accompanist and director of the children’s choir for several years. Virginia also did volunteer work at the Wagoner Nursing Home, working with the activity director. She was a member of the P.E.O. Ch.BD.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Anne and her husband, Floyd.
Virginia is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Sarah Kepler, St. Joseph, MO, grandson, John Kepler, Houston, TX, and granddaughters, Jenny Klinkenberg, Kansas City, MO, and Elizabeth Kepler, St. Joseph, MO.
Virginia loved Wagoner and was heard to say, “ Moving to Wagoner was one of the best things we ever did.”
Graveside Service: 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 19th at Altoona Cemetery, Altoona, KS
