Verda Mae (Porter) Baker

 

Verda Baker, 98, of Platte City, MO passed away, Saturday, April 5, 2014.


 

She was born on August 7, 1915 to Jesse Demos and Iva Myrtle (Branum) Porter in Platte County, MO where she grew up and attended Lanter School. 


 

In 1934 she was united in marriage to Gordon Baker, Sr.  After their marriage they farmed south of Platte City where they made their home.  Her husband passed away March 5, 1994.


 

Verda was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church.  She enjoyed quilting, dancing and playing cards and marbles. Verda was a doll maker and took pride in her collection.


 

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, June and Jake Porter; and sister, Evelyn Ham.


 

Verda is survived by one son, Gordon Baker, Jr. and wife Carolyn; grandchildren, Harold Baker and wife Julie, Lori Sherry and husband Devin, and Curtis Baker and girlfriend Jessie; great-grandchildren, Chris, Danny and wife Jennifer, Brandon and wife Kaitlyn, Kaleb and fiancé Candace, and Tiger; great-great-grandchildren, Kaleigh, Mason, Alena, Ava, and Jaclyn; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.


 

Friends and Family are welcome to attend the Graveside Service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 12th at Hampton Cemetery.


Donations may be made to the Hillsboro Christian Church.
