Thomas Edwin Land
Thomas Edwin Land, 79, of Smithville, Mo., passed away, Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008
He was born on March 13, 1928 to Basil I. And Cora E. (Masterson) Land in Ft. Scott, Kansas where he grew up and graduated from Ft. Scott High School.
He then served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. In 1956 he moved to the Kansas City area and in 1959 he moved to Smithville.
On November 17, 1978 he married Dorothy Mae “Dottie” (Knollenberg) Olsen. After their marriage they lived in Smithville where they made their home. His wife, Dottie, passed away, November 26, 2007.
Tom worked for over 55 years as an electrician and was a member of International Brotherhood Electrical Workers Local 14 in Kansas City. He was a 50 year member of Rising Sun #8 Masonic Lodge in Ft. Scott, Kansas. Tom was also a volunteer for Smithville Ambulance and drove the Care Van for Spelman and St. Luke’s Hospital in Smithville.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, and one brother killed during WWII, Basil Land.
Survivors: children, Wayne Land, Houston, Mo., Vicki Thomas and husband Richard, Smithville, Mo., Debbie Shook and husband John, Houston, Mo., and Tom Land and wife, Glenda, Omaha, NE, Lori Barnard and husband, Michael, Bolivar TN and Stacy Wheeler, Kearney, MO; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Land, Kimberling City, Mo., sister, Mary K. Turley, Ft. Scott, Kansas, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 5th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville, MO.
Burial with Military Honors: I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Smithville.
Masonic Services: 6:00 p.m. Friday with visitation following until 8:00 p.m at the funeral home.
