In Remembrance Of

Teresa Sue Lizar

Teresa Lizar, age 51 died in a fatal car crash on 169 Hwy the afternoon of Thursday, March 11, 2010.

Tess was born on January 21, 1959 at the Smithville Hospital and lived in the area her entire life. She graduated from Smithville High School in 1977 and attended college at Maryville, Mo. after which she chose to explore the world by backpacking across Europe with her friend Debbie Bender. She also went on the People to People trip to Europe with other students. Tess was a big supporter of the AFS program and hosted Margit from Norway her senior year and, with her brother Bob, hosted Ove Sivertsson from Sweden his senior year. Her travels were many during her employment with TWA including visiting both AFS students in their countries.

Tess was currently employed by Assurant Employee Benefits of KCMO. She recently received certification as a Holistic Nutrition counselor. Tess, an avid reader, always wanted to learn more about our world. She was a horse lover from childhood, adored animals and had plans to go on an African Safari. But Tillie, her cat and true companion, kept her from going! Teresa's heart went out to the needy and she would adopt a family at Christmas to brighten their world.

Tess was preceded in death by her father, Jack Lizar, in 2001and her brother, Bob in 1989 and many dear relatives and friends.

Teresa is survived by her mother, JoAnne Lizar Rice, and stepfather Robert Rice, her sisters Mary, Lisa (John) Barber, brother John (Gaby), nieces and nephews Jonnae, Jason and Robert Barber and Jacquelynn and Joshua Lizar, many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
