Susan (Foley) Taylor

Susan (Foley) Taylor, 91 of rural Gower, MO passed away peacefully on May 8, 2014.

 

She was born on December 13, 1922 in rural Daviess County, Gallatin, MO to Edward Wiley and Alice Maria (O’toole) Foley.  She was the third of five children- Harriett Foley Hobson, Rebecca Foley Porter, Sanford Wiley Foley and Martha Foley Jarman, all of whom preceded her in death.

 

She was reared on the family farm and graduated from Gallatin High School in 1940.  She attended Northwest Missouri State Teachers College in Maryville, Missouri, for one year where she met Wayne Samuel Taylor.  After teaching school in a one room schoolhouse, seven students, in Breckenridge, Missouri, for one year, she married Wayne on September 26, 1942 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

 

In 1946, they moved to Kansas City when Wayne joined TWA.  After a two year transfer to Boston, Susan and Wayne bought their first home in Kansas City North in 1950 where they remained for the duration of Wayne’s flying career.  In 1980 they moved to rural Clinton County, back to their rural roots, where they lived together well passed their 71st wedding anniversary.

 

Susan was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in North Kansas City and attended the First Baptist Church in Plattsburg, Missouri for the last 34 years.

 

Susan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was lovingly known as “Granny” by her beloved “Grands.”  Susan had a servant’s heart for her family and was beloved by one and all who had the honor of knowing her.  To the very end, she was a caregiver and taught her family how to love and to serve one another.

 

She is survived by her sons, Tommy Taylor and fiancé Barbara and Jon Taylor and wife Paulette; daughter Jane Day and husband Arnie; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral Service:  7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 13th with visitation 6:00-7:00 p.m. prior to the service at the First Baptist Church in Plattsburg, MO.

Family graveside service will be at Lick Fork Cemetery in rural Daviess County.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the building fund at the church.
