Sophie Mary (Fotovich) Smith

Sophie Mary Smith, 72, of Gower, MO passed away Friday, January 3, 2014.

 

She was born on November 30, 1941 to Michael Henry and Sophia (Ponak) Fotovich in Kansas City, MO.  Sophie grew up in Kansas City, KS and attend St. John the Baptist Catholic School.

 

On February 22, 1962 she was united in marriage to Meldon Rex Smith.  After their marriage they lived in Claycomo, MO and in 1964 moved to rural Gower where they made their home.

 

Sophie was a 4-H Leader for many years and was very active in her children’s lives.  She enjoyed embroidering, baking, taking pictures, and being in her garden.  Sophie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Michael Fotovich and infant twin sons Timothy and Samuel.

 

Sophie is survived by her husband Rex Smith; children, Lorraine (Gene) Megenity, Atchison, KS, Phil (Tammy) Smith, Easton, MO, Matthew Smith, Gower, MO, Marcus (Dovie) Smith, Gower, MO, Paul Smith, Gower, MO, Carl (Karen) Smith, St. Joseph, MO and Jennifer Smith, Lecompton, KS; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; fourteen step-great grandchildren; brothers, Lawrence (Joan) Fotovich, Tony (Ruth) Fotovich, John Fotovich; sisters, Helen M. Kennedy-Comley, Cathleen Turner, and Mary Kennedy; other relatives and many friends.

 

Visitation:  11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. with Memorial Services at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11^th  at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower
