Sonia (Frakes) Ray

Sonia F. Ray, 68 of Dearborn, MO passed away Wednesday May 7, 2014.

 

She was born on June 7, 1945 to Tilford and Dorothy (Saunders) Frakes in Atchison, KS.  Sonia grew up on a farm in rural Dekalb.  Sonia was valedictorian of her graduating class at Dekalb High School in 1963.  She received her beautician’s license from Carl’s Beauty Academy.  Sonia worked for Carl’s Beauty Salon for a few years.

 

On September 5, 1965 she was united in marriage to Robert Lee Ray of Dearborn.  During their marriage they lived in Marshalltown, IA; Dearborn, MO; Ottumwa, IA; Marshall, MO; and returned to Dearborn in 2004.

 

During Sonia’s career she worked for several banks including Platte Valley Bank in Platte City and Dearborn and Farm Credit Services in Marshall, MO.

 

She was an active member of the Dearborn United Methodist Church where she started Fun and Friendship with Sandy Buntin, and knitted prayer shawls and made quilts for Children’s Mercy.  Sonia enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed square dancing with Bob.  She recently learned to play bridge.

 

Sonia was preceded in death by her parents.

 

She is survived by her husband Bob; children Robin L. Ray and husband Dan Hon, Evan T. Ray and wife Paige; grandchildren Noah Dunn, Calvin Ray Hon, and Remmy Ray; AFS daughter Marisol Sevilla Shereck; brother Tommy Frakes; other relatives and many friends. 

 

Memorial Service:  11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 10th at Dearborn United Methodist Church with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service.

Arrangements, Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Edgerton.

 

Donations may be made to Dearborn United Methodist Church or St. Luke's Hospice.
