Sidney J. Kimsey

Sidney J. Kimsey, 98, of Smithville, MO, passed away, January 23, 2012 from pneumonia, at the Gower Convalescent Center where he had lived since May 2008.

He was born on August 31, 1913 in rural Platte County to Ernest Herndon and Minnie (Bossenberger) Kimsey. He graduated from Smithville High School in 1933.

On January 3, 1936 he was united in marriage to Helen E. Maget. They celebrated 73 years of marriage before Helen passed away August 26, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ellis B. in 2004. Sid was a farmer and a school bus contractor for the Smithville R-2 School District. He drove Bus #6 from 1954 until he retired in 1978. He worked for the ASCS several summers measuring farms. After retiring he was a substitute mail carrier for the Smithville Post Office. He worked tirelessly to bring rural water to Platte County and was a director of Water District #4 after its initiation. Sid was a gentle man who loved people. He never knew a stranger. He was a longtime member and elder emeritus of Hoover Christian Church.

He is survived by his two daughters, Bonnie Jean Chancellor and Shirley Ann (Denney) French, former son-in-law, J.W. Chancellor, all of Smithville; grandchildren, Candice Lynn (Jay) Sutton, Marcia Kay Franke, Dale Alan (Susan) French, Kerri Jean (Roy) Boyer, and Douglas Scott (Shana) French; great-grandchildren, Sterling (Adrienne) and Hunter Sutton, Brady and Conner French, Blaze and Eli Franke, and Kealee and Eden French; one great-great-grandchild due in August; brother, Ray L. Kimsey, Smithville; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 26th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.

Burial: Smithville Memorial Cemetery

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hoover Christian Church or Three Rivers Hospice.
