Shorty Schuster

Harold Dwayne “Shorty” Schuster, 78, of Gower, MO passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013 at his home.

 

He was born on February 24, 1934 to Jewell C and Bertha Ann (Poage) Schuster in St. Joseph, MO.  Shorty grew up in Gower and in 1952 graduated from Gower High School.  He then served his country in the US Army.

 

On April 14, 1955 he was united in marriage to Dorothy May Silvey.  After their marriage they lived in Gower where they made their home.

 

Shorty was an over the road truck driver and retired from Yellow Freight in 1991. 

 

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gower.  Shorty was a sports enthusiast.  He loved coaching his children in little league baseball, managing the Farmer’s Bank of Gower Softball Team and later following his grandchildren‘s sporting activities.  He was active in the community, enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family.   

 

Shorty was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jewell C. “Bill” Schuster and brother-in-law, Nick Spaeth.

 

He is survived by his wife Dorothy, children Vicky McCoy and husband Ron, David Schuster and wife Dana and Randy Schuster and wife Penny; grandchildren, Mark Schuster and wife Justine, Grant Schuster and wife Erin, Jennifer McCoy, and Christine McCoy; great-grandchildren,  Payton, Mason, Kale, and Clara; sister Louise Spaeth; sisters-in-law, Maxine Schuster, Shirley Gilchrist and husband Bill and Connie Smith; brother-in-law, Don Silvey and wife Sheryl; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

 

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 23rd at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower

Burial:  Allen Cemetery

Visitation:  6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Donations to the First Baptist Church, Gower.
