Shirlie Yvonne Thomas

Shirlie Y. Thomas, 78 of  Gower, MO formerly of Pensacola, FL passed away Friday, January 30, 2015 at the Gower Convalescent Center.

She was born on May 27, 1936 to Archie Oscar and Dollie Agnes (Johnson) Thomas in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  She grew up in King City, MO and graduated from King City High School in 1954.   She then attended Missouri Methodist School of Nursing where she received her R.N. Degree.  Shirlie served her country in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1979. She served several tours including the Vietnam War as a Lieutenant Commander.

After her honorable discharge she moved to Pensacola, FL and worked as an ER nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital for several years. 

Shirlie enjoyed traveling, and had a great love for her animals.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Jack Thomas, Don Thomas, and Bill Thomas, sister Barbara Mitchell, and her life partner Shirley Atkinson.

Shirlie is survived by several nieces and nephews, other relatives and lifelong friend, Mary Katherine Mitchell.

Graveside Service:  2:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 4th at Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Visitation:  12:00-1:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower.
