Rosalind Sue (Tester) Kenyon
Rosalind Sue Kenyon, 60, of St. Joseph, MO, formerly of Gower, passed away Friday, August 5, 2011 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, MO. Memorial Services: 3:00 PM Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home in Gower, Mo. Family will receive friends following the services until 5:30 PM.
She was born on August 26, 1950 to William Wayne and Jean Louise (Addis) Tester in Iowa City, Iowa. She was a graduate of Iowa City High School in 1968 and went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from North East Missouri State College in Kirksville, MO in 1973.
Ros always wanted to be a schoolteacher. She met her future husband at Kirksville while pursuing her degree. They married on January 23, 1971. She started her career at Hosea in Saint Joseph, MO teaching special education. Ros took a small leave when she was blessed with a daughter and son. She returned to teaching part-time at Clarksdale, MO. Ros completed her career at East Buchanan Elementary School where she taught for 21 years. Her teaching experience included kindergarten through 4th grade including special education and learning disabilities. Ros loved to teach and her students loved her.
Ros was preceded in death by her mother.
Survivors include her husband, Jack; daughter Michelle Kenyon Brown of Iowa City, IA; son Daniel Kenyon and his wife Teresa of Gower, MO; her two grandchildren, Frieda Pi Kenyon Brown & Jack Lee Kenyon; her father William Tester of Cloquet, MN; two brothers, Rodney Tester and wife Sue of Cloquet, MN. & Bill Tester Jr. and his wife Beth Alden of Iowa City, IA; two sisters, Melanie Fleming and her husband Scott of Blue Grass, IA & Meribeth Rigoni Schmidt and her husband Jeff Schmidt of Westmont, IL; her mother -in -law Laverne Kenyon and sister-in-law Linda Hicks, both of Vinita, OK.; as well as several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
At her request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name can be made to East Buchanan Elementary School, 100 Smith St. Gower, MO 64454 for supplementary educational resources.
