Rosa Wrenn Wilson

Rosa Wrenn Wilson, 97, of Smithville, MO formerly of Roanoke Rapids, NC passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, February 13, 2016.  She joined her love, Bill, in Heaven for Valentine’s Day

She was born on May 20, 1918, the first born child of Richard Lee and Lena Mae (Shaw) Wrenn.  She was born on a small farm in the Forrest Hills area of Brink, Virginia.  Rosa enjoyed growing up on the farm.  At the age of 12 the family moved to Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina so Rosa’s father could work in the mills.

Rosa worked for Patterson Mill where she met the love of her life William A. “Bill” Wilson.  They were married on June 9, 1934.  After their marriage they lived in Roanoke Rapids, NC where they raised their daughter Linda. 

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids for 62 years. 

Rosa was preceded in death by her husband Bill; sisters Virginia Louise Wrenn and Lucy Wrenn Mendes; brother Russell Lee Wrenn; son-in-law Dr. Wilbert “Roy” Thomas; and grandchildren Thomas Joseph Bennett, Jr., William “Bill” Thomas, and Alice Thomas Matthews.

She is survived by her daughter Linda Thomas; grandchildren Kathleen Marie Hinton and husband Guy, Jennifer Bennett Chasser and husband Michael, Tena Thomas Rhoads, Janette Thomas Baker and husband Dan and John Leroy Thomas; many great-grandchildren; cousin Juanita Shaw Love; other relatives and many friends.

There will be a home going celebration at Linda’s Home in Smithville, MO on Wednesday February 17th from 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Visitation:  7:00-9:00 p.m. Friday February 19th at Hockaday Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Funeral Services:  2:00 p.m. Saturday February 20th at First Baptist Church, Roanoke Rapids, NC

Burial:  Crestview Memorial Gardens, Roanoke Rapids, NC
