Robert Jerome Devling
Robert Jerome Devling, 86, of Elwood, KS formerly of Plattsburg, MO passed away February 4, 2016 at St. Luke’s Northland Hospital with family by his side.
He was born on December 18, 1929 to Robert and Gladys (Woods) Devling in North Kansas City, Missouri. Bob grew up in Plattsburg, Missouri and later graduated from North Kansas City High School. Bob served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he was on the front line.
On December 31, 1950 he was united in marriage to Frances Lavada Blake. After their marriage they lived in rural Plattsburg where they farmed and raised their three children. In 1971 they purchased the Sunflower Village Mobile Home Park and later moved to Elwood, KS.
Bob farmed, traded, sold machinery, and restored antique tractors. He was an avid antique tractor collector. Bob was a member of the American Legion Post #161 in Wathena, KS and was involved in several tractor associations in the area.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Lowell Hudson Devling.
Bob is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lavada; children Fran and Kent Krieger, Alfred Devling and Bobetta and Kenny Raines; grandchildren Blake and Ariean Krieger, Brett Devling, Jeremy and Julie Raines and Kathy and Scott McClung; great-grandchildren August, Oliver, Estin, Bradley, Emma and Joey; sister Fran Broderick; brother Harold and Sharen Devling; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday February 9th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower
Visitation: 5:30-8:00 p.m. Monday February 8th at the funeral home.
Burial with Military Honors: Allen Cemetery, Gower
At Bob’s request casual attire is requested.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lathrop Antique Tractor Association or the Allen Cemetery
