Robert Gene Lake

 

Robert Gene Lake, 74, of Smithville, MO, passed away May 10, 2010 at his home.

He was born on May 26, 1935 to William and Flora Lee (Jacks) Lake in Kansas City, MO. Bob grew up in Smithville and in 1954, he graduated from Smithville High School. Bob attended the University of Missouri in Columbia. In 1958, he was drafted into the US Army and served as a tank gunner in the 32nd Armor Division until April 1963. After his honorable discharge, he attended Central Missouri State College were he studied Economics.

On December 19, 1964 he was united in marriage to Sandra Sue Edwards. After their marriage they lived in Smithville where they made their home.

He retired from Ford Motor Company as an Industrial Engineer after 35 years. After his retirement, Bob enjoyed mowing the grounds for the Smithville School District, the Smithville Christian Church.

Bob was a member of the Smithville Christian Church where he served as past Deacon and Elder and was on the church board. Bob was also a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Smithville Masonic Lodge and the Ararat Shrine. He was past president of the Smithville School Board, and had served as an Alderman for the City of Smithville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother Charles.

Bob is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sue of the home; daughters, Audra Baber and husband Troy, Amy Schwind and husband, Rick, Amanda Duffey and husband, Phil; grandchildren, Lindsey, Eliza, Robbie, Ben, John, and Jesse; sister, Carole Summers and husband, Don; brother, Bill Lake and wife, Carol; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 15th at the Smithville Christian Church.

Burial: Smithville Memorial Cemetery

Visitation: 6:30-9:00 p.m. Friday at the Church.

Donations: Smithville Christian Church Memorial Fund or Liberty Hospital Hospice.

Arrangements: Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.
