Robert E. Wright

Robert E. Wright, lifelong resident of Camden Point, died on October 25, 2018, just three days shy of his 90th birthday.

Bob Wright will be remembered for his community volunteerism and leadership — helping start organized baseball in Camden Point, serving as a long time President of a multi-town baseball league, and being instrumental in forming the Camden Point Fire Department and the Camden Point Fire Protection District, in which he served many years as Chief and then Board member, including being President of the Clay-Platte Fire Chiefs Association.

Bob also was a leader in the Platte County Democratic party and organized labor as a proud member of the International Association of Machinists. He represented the state as a delegate to the 1980 Democratic National Convention. While doing all of this, he found time to hold down a job at TWA and keep many of the town’s cars running by working out of his home shop and garage.

Bob is preceded in death by Mary Lou Keesaman Wright, his best friend and wife of nearly 60 years. Together they raised two sons Dan and Rod, never missing a baseball game, and frequently hosting many fun times for their sons and their friends. Together they enjoyed travels throughout the country and were especially fond of the mountain and western states.

He is survived by his two sons Dan and Rod, Dan’s wife Holly, four grandchildren, Jessica, Hilary, Sam and Lindsey, and those who became his extended family — the hardworking men and women who contribute countless hours to emergency medical and fire protection services in Camden Point.

A service for family and close friends will be held at the Camden Point cemetery on November 3rd at noon, followed by a Memorial Celebration at the Camden Point Fire Protection District Station at 1:00 p.m. Food and refreshments will be available at the Fire Station for those who wishing to arrive a half hour or so before the Memorial services start at 1:00 p.m. The entire community is invited to this celebration to share stories and memories. The family wishes this to be a casual event. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Camden Point Fire Protection District.
