Robert E. Shumate

Robert E. Shumate, 76, of Gower, MO, passed away, Wednesday, August 11, 2010.

He was born on May 8, 1934 to Robert Francis and Mary Louisa (Smith) Shumate in Ray County, Missouri. He attended school in Ray County and later attended Plattsburg High School.

On June 8, 1952 he was united in marriage to Martha Jane Baker. After their marriage they lived in Kansas City, Stewartsville, and in 1972 they moved to Gower where they made their home.

Robert worked for General Motors and other Auto Dealerships. After his retirement he drove a school bus for Plattsburg and East Buchanan School Districts.

He was a member of the Church of God Seventh Day in St. Joseph.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Katherin States.

He is survived by his wife, Martha, of the home; children Marcia Manning and husband, Grover, Louisburg, KS, Robert Shumate and wife, Marcia, Bull Shoals, AR, Patricia Nelson and husband, Larry, Louisburg, KS, Janet From and husband, Dennis, Moundsview, MN, Debra Ostrander and husband, Steve, Gower, MO; seventeen grandchildren, Melissa and husband, Jerod, Brandon and wife, Kayla, Allen and wife, Tabetha, Brenda and husband, Ben, Kevin, Anthony and fiancé, Victoria, Nathaniel, Timothy, Craig and wife, Elizabeth, Karen and husband, Adam, Julie, Daniel and wife, Anne, Brian and wife, Melissa, Rachel and fiancé, Nahbahe, Andrew, Alyssa, and Aaron; thirteen great-grandchildren, brother, Earl Shumate and wife, Linda, Excelsior Springs, MO, sisters, Carroll Overfelt and husband, Tom, Independence, MO. and Mary Ann Clark, Independence, MO; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 14th at the First Baptist Church of Gower.

Visitation: 6:30-8:00 p.m. Friday at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower.

Graveside Service: 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Cowgill Cemetery, Cowgill, MO.
