Rita M. (Kuyrkendall) Ferris
Rita Marie (Kuyrkendall) Ferris was born January 24, 1986 in Des Moines, Iowa to Edgar Kuyrkendall and Victoria (Yaw) Kuyrkendall. She passed away May 22nd, 2016, of breast cancer, well-loved, with her adoptive parents, friends, and Crossroads Hospice at her side. She went to be with our Lord on the Feast of St. Rita. As a child, Rita spent many years in foster care and also lived at Orchard Place Child Guidance Center. She was later adopted by Keith and Shannon Hansen.
Rita’s greatest joy was being a mother. She also enjoyed making people laugh, being a good friend, gaming, and crafting.
Rita is survived by nine children, including Isabella Caylor, Wyatt Breshears, and Raina Breshears; her father Edgar Kuyrkendall; her siblings, including Edward and Leonard “Lenny”, and her adoptive parents, Keith and Shannon Hansen; adoptive sisters, Jayden, Lily, Karlee and Randi Grace Hansen. She was proceeded in death by her biological mother, Victoria Kuyrkendall and her adoptive sister Frances Raphael Hansen.
Visitation will be held from 1-2 pm Thursday June 2nd, with a rosary beginning at 2:00 pm and a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:30 all at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Smithville, MO. Private burial will be at a later date, at Resurrection Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. Hixson-Klein Funeral Home is handling cremation and funeral arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hansen family to assist with Rita’s final expenses.

To one hell of a friend and “sister” in a way only those of us who shared that bond could know. She had a huge heart and would take in those who had nothing, including me when she had little to give but gave freely of it anyway. She will always hold a place in our hearts and be missed by many. My heart is forever saddened and broken at her passing at a young age.
