Richard Lovell

Richard Lovell, 57, of Kansas City, MO, passed away, January 6, 2010 at his home.

He was born on March 26, 1952 to Ernest Frank and Mary Lou (Seavers) Lovell. He graduated from North Platte High School in 1970. He attended Central Methodist University in Fayetteville, Missouri where he received his Bachelors Degree in Philosophy and he received his Computer Science Degree from the University of Missouri.

Richard worked for Defenbaugh Industries as a computer Programmer for 19 years. He was a member of the Missouri River Relief and the Prairie Dulcimer Club. Richard had a long-term love affair with the river, which is chronicled on his website, www.missouririvertrips.com .

He is survived by his companion Paula Acconcia, Lake Waukomis, MO, his daughter, Cathy Lovell and husband, Mario Alderfer, Omaha, NE; his parents Ernest and Mary Lou Lovell, Gardner, KS; three brothers, Randy Lovell, Thompson Falls, MT, Kenneth Lovell, Chicago, IL, and Mark Lovell of the home; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services: 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 10th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville, with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Burial: Smithville Memorial Cemetery.

Because Richard was active for many years in Missouri River Relief, an organization devoted to reconnecting people to the Missouri River through river clean-ups and education events, the family suggests donations in lieu of flowers to the Richard Lovell Memorial Fund at Missouri River Relief, PO Box 463, Columbia, MO 65205 or www.riverrelief.org .

    I worked side by side with Richard for 13 years. I will NEVER forget him! We had a million laughs. I really respected the drive he maintained inspite of his great difficulties in his latter years. I could hardly believe his trips down the Missouri.
