Richard Duane Shannon
Richard Duane Shannon, 81, of Kansas City, MO, formerly of Smithville, passed away, Sunday, January 15, 2012.
He was born on November 5, 1930 to Floyd and Mabel (Fox) Shannon in Smithville, MO. Richard grew up in Smithville and graduated from Smithville High School. He then served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
On June 9, 1951 he was united in marriage to Bettye Ann Emison. After their marriage they lived in Smithville where they made their home. Bettye passed away November 13, 1991. On January 1, 1996 he married Mary Ann (Smith) Minnis, they lived in Smithville and in 2008 moved to Kansas City.
Richard was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Smithville and was baptized in the church on November 7, 1943.
Richard retired as an Accounting Manager working for GMAC in Kansas City for over 37 years. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement, spending summer months boating on Smithville Lake and riding his motorcycle, and wintering with Mary in their Arizona home.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Robert Keith Shannon.
Richard is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, of the home; children, Steven Kelly Shannon, Ft. Worth, TX, and Kimberly Ann Shannon and fiancé Timothy Fyfe, Chicago, IL: Mary’s children, Donna Keith and husband Lee, Kansas City, Daniel Minnis and wife Jeannette, Pittsburg, KS, and Bryan Minnis and wife Kursten, Baldwin City, KS; eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Funeral Services: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 18th at the First Christian Church in Smithville with visitation from 10:00-11:30 a.m. prior to the service.
Burial with Military Honors: Smithville Memorial Cemetery.

Steve and Kim,
Sorry Im unable to attend the service for your dad. I always thought your parents were an awesome couple. We have to have faith that they are together whole and perfect in the eyes of god and that someday you will all be together again.
