Reynolds Gene Cooper
Reynolds Gene Cooper, 87 of Smithville, MO passed away, Thursday, January 24, 2013.
He was born on October 30, 1925 to Fielding Kindley and Mollie Elizabeth (Clause) Cooper near Holt, MO. He attended Clay County country schools and North Kansas City High School and Smithville High School.
On March 2, 1945 he was united in marriage to Wilma Louise Rogers. He then served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII. After his honorable discharge he returned to Smithville where he and Wilma made their home. His wife, Wilma, preceded him in death on October 1, 2006.
Reynolds was a farmer and worked for over 30 years for Ford Motor Company in North Kansas City and Lenexa, KS, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the Smithville Christian Church, Local Union #249 and served on the Board of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop #412. Since 1960 he was a Smithville Volunteer Firefighter where he had served as Captain, an American Red Cross Volunteer from 1965-1990 and was head of the disaster team in Smithville.
Reynolds was also preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his son, Roger Gene Cooper and wife Judy, Kansas City, MO; two grandchildren, Nathanael “Nathan” Paul Myers and wife Selina and Jennifer “Jenni” Suzanna Myers; two great-grandchildren, Lucas and McKenna; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday January 28th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.
Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Kearney, MO
Visitation: 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Donations: Smithville Fire Department.
