Reverend Jesse Lee Taylor, Lt. Col. (Ret)
Reverend Jesse Lee Taylor, Lt. Col. (Ret) 80, of Excelsior Springs, MO, passed away June 2, 2012.
Taylor was a veteran of World War II as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, Korean War aboard the USS Los Angeles, and Vietnam War in the 19th Artillery Division. Taylor retired from military service in 1970. He was a recipient of Distinguished Service Cross, three Bronze Stars, and three Purple Hearts among many other commendations.
Accepting a call from Christ he graduated from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1978 with a Master of Divinity. He pastored to churches in Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, and was a Director of Missions in Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Nettie Ball, one sister, and four brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Shirley Taylor; son Dan and wife Linda (Beamer) of Tustin, CA; daughter DeLynn Smith of Smithville, MO; son David and wife Rebecca (Simcosky), of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren, T.J. Smith, Mandy (Smith) and husband Ed Grindel, Anastasia (Taylor) and husband Todd Ramsey, Elias Taylor, and Rachel Smith. He also has five great-grandchildren, Riley and Beau Ramsey, Gavin, Haddie and Dawson Grindel; other family members and friends. He was loved and respected and his life deeply impacted many others.
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 6th at Mosby Baptist Church,, Mosby, MO.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Thursday June 7th with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Final resting place at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO
Donations may be made to Mosby Baptist Church, Gideon’s International, or Pancreatic Cancer.
