Raymond “Mac” McLaughlin
Raymond ?Mac? McLaughlin, 84, of Smithville, MO, passed away, Friday, January 9, 2008.
He was born on January 31, 1924 to Travis and Cecil Pearl (Wright) McLaughlin in Mt. Moriah, Missouri. He grew up in the Cainsville, MO area and as a young adult he was active in the Civilian Conservation Corps, traveled from Florida to Minnesota working on a carnival crew/railroad show and then worked for Tobin Seed Company. In 1952, he married, settled down in the Kansas City area and went to work for Trans World Airlines as a mechanic. Mac retired from TWA in 1984 and soon after moved to Smithville, a community he grew very fond of and where he made many friends.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nida (Higdon) McLaughlin, son, Raymond Joseph McLaughlin, grandson, Joshua McLaughlin, and two sisters, Eva Constable and Christine McLain.
He is survived by his son, Dave ?Spud? McLaughlin, Kansas City, MO; daughter, Teresa Nieuwendaal and husband, Steve, Indianapolis, IN; four grandchildren, Major Travis Chapman and wife, Shawna, Scott Magee, Tara Magee, and Jacob Dean McLaughlin; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation: 6:30-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 14th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.
Funeral Services: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 15th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.
Graveside Service: 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Leon Cemetery in Leon, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Smithville.
