Raymond Gordon “Shorty” Eberts
Raymond Gordon “Shorty” Eberts, 90, of Smithville, MO passed away Wednesday February 27, 2013 at a hospital in Kansas City.
He was born on March 1, 1922 to Charles Gordon and Nina Francis (Frick) Eberts in Kearney, MO where he grew up and attended school. Shorty then served his country in the US Army as a Sergeant during WWII.
On November 14, 1951 he was united in marriage to Esther Hess. After their marriage they lived in Smithville, moving to Avondale, MO in 1958 and returning to the Smithville area in 1992. His wife Esther preceded him in death on May 29, 2004.
Prior to the birth of his children, Shorty raced stock cars throughout the Midwest winning many races. He owned and operated Shorty’s Service Station and later Shorty’s Used Cars both in Avondale. In his later years Shorty enjoyed gardening and loved buying, selling and working on cars, trucks and tractors.
He was also preceded in death by his son Raymond E Eberts on January 31, 2013, two brothers, Frank and Jimmy, and three sisters, Lucille, Naomi and Judy.
Shorty is survived by his daughters Lynn Stock and husband Jay, Trimble, MO Linda Sue Weisbach and husband Steve, Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren Amanda Litton and husband Thomas, Daniel Weisbach and wife Nadia, Rex Eberts, Sarina Eberts and Shelbie Eberts; great-granddaughter, Jessica Weisbach; sisters, Lorene, Carolyn, Velma and Billie; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. Monday March 4th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville with visitation from 12:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service
Burial with Military Honors: Paradise Cemetery, Smithville
