Ray Lee Kimsey
Ray Lee Kimsey, 90, of Smithville, MO passed away Tuesday, June 04, 2013 at his home.
He was born on July 20, 1922 to Ernest Herndon and Minnie (Bossenberger) Kimsey in rural Platte County where he grew up and graduated from Smithville High School. He served his country in the US Army in the 9th Armored Division as a member of the 27th Armored Infantry Battalion during the Battle of the Bulge and Remagen Bridge.
On August 23, 1942 he was united in marriage to Winifred Marie “Winnie” Stubbs. After their marriage they made their home near Smithville. Winnie passed away on December 13, 2008.
Ray was a faithful member of the Hoover Christian Church for many years. Winnie and Ray owned and operated the Smithville School Buses, and he was also a truck driver for Fleming Babcock Company. He was the most kind and gentle man around. Ray was a proud veteran, the best father, grandpa and great-grandpa, a loving husband, proud farmer and way too many more things to list.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ellis B Kimsey and Sidney J. Kimsey.
Ray will be eternally loved and remembered by his daughter Mona Dean and husband John, Lake Winnebago, MO; sons, Michael Kimsey and wife Marilynn and Kyle Kimsey and wife Connie, all of Smithville; six grandchildren, Johnna (Mike) Meyer, Julie (Doug) Stoehr, Joseph Kimsey, Benjamin (Erin) Kimsey, Nancy (Matthew) Evans and Laura Kimsey (fiancé Kurt Berkebile); great-grandchildren, Ellie, John and Abbie Meyer, Connor, Elana and Sidney Stoehr, and Eli and Gage Evans; sister-in-law Shirley Kimsey; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8th with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service all at the Hoover Christian Church.
Inurnment at Smithville Memorial Cemetery
Donations may be made to Liberty Hospital Hospice or the church.
