    My condolences

  • Paul Ours ( JR )

I am completely lost about finding out My BROTHER Paul AKA SR, has left us. I know we all find ourselves speaking highly of people once it’s to late. Yet this is a Man I came across in late 1998 early 1999 while serving in C Co 2/35 CACTI Hawaii 3rd plt. He came in as my PSG and myself being his 3rd squad leader. He was a pure professional taught me everything from leadership to being a true man. We developed what some would consider inappropriate bond given our duty positions. Regardless we stayed professional during duty outside of everyone calling him SR and myself JR given the PAUL first name’s. He took care of a soldier’s no matter what silly trouble they got into. He never demanded respect of rank but wanted to earn your respect as a man which is a very rare virtue in the military. Most personal get rank and act like respect should be given only because of that. In 2001 I left for another government job continuing contact per emails and calls we lost a 2 year block of not talking. I was sent to Baghdad in Sept 06 – 07 about 3 months into a nasty OP was conducted by myself and boys. I return to my FOB needed to decompress and head to a larger base for pogie bait well minutes into the PX a loud JUNIOR rang out. Chills still run up my neck what odds to cross paths of all places there. Long story short we talked for few hours over some MOUTH WASH lol ( Maker’s Mark Whiskey ) Bottom line he straightened my head out. Exchanged info and left. He was one of the best men and I am saddened to see yet another Brother gone to soon. See ya one day on infantry hill buddy

I found out last night from a fellow plt member that SR had passed. I served in Hawaii with Paul he was a man of integrity, loyalty and respect. I wouldn’t be half the NCO or man I am today without meeting him. We crossed paths in Baghdad 08 he was civilian contractor while I was still wearing the uniform. Had a rough fire fight earlier yet the second I heard Paul tell ( JR ) across the FOB. I smiled like a kid on Christmas morning. These are very few of his infectious smile an attitude. Truly lost a GREAT MAN I will attempt to find a family member or close friend to find out how he was doing the last 5 years.
