Patricia “Patty” Farris

Patricia Nann Farris, 83, of Gower, MO passed away December 14, 2016.

She was born on September 30, 1933 to George D. and Nannie (Waller) Furbeck in Hamilton, MO.  Patty graduated from Dearborn High School.  She received an Associate of Arts from the Christian College (now Columbia College) in 1953, her Bachelor of Science in education from the University of Missouri in 1959 and her master’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University in 1987.    

Patty was a teacher at Grayson, Plattsburg, Lathrop, Gower and retired from her teaching career after 40 years of service from the St. Joseph School District.

She was united in marriage to Donald E. Farris.  After their marriage they lived in Plattsburg, MO.  He passed away on January 26, 2004 and Patty moved to Gower.

Patty was a member of the Gower Christian Church where she served as an Elder.  She was the recipient of the Teachers Leadership Award from the Missouri State Teachers Association in 1995 and was chosen to be included in Who’s Who in Education.  Patty was also a member of the Missouri Retired Teachers Association, The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.  She loved playing bridge and was dedicated to her family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister Sandra Rickman and her faithful canine companion Gabby.  

Patty is survived by her children Jimmy (Linda) Taylor and Stefanie (Frank) Burris; grandchildren, Andrea (Eric) Robertson, James Joseph Taylor and Gordon Michael Burris; brother Larry (Dianne) Furbeck; sister Linda Lanning; several nieces and nephews, other family and many friends.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 19th at the Gower Christian Church.

Visitation: 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 18th at the church.

Burial:  Dearborn Cemetery

Donations may be made to East Buchanan CTA Memorial Scholarship Fund or the Gower Christian Church.
