ORLO COAKLEY

Orlo Coakley, 75, of rural Smithville in Platte County, passed away, Sunday, January 8, 2006.

He was born on July 27, 1930 to William Orlo and Grace Marion (Hulfish) Coakley in Winnetonka, MO. The family moved to Gashland where he attended Gashland Elementary School. Orlo attended high school in North Kansas City and graduated from Liberty High School. He then served his country in the U.S. Navy for two tours during the Korean War.

On June 14, 1953 he was united in marriage to Darlene Jean Taylor at her family?s farm in Weeping Water, Nebraska. After their marriage they lived in Nebraska and California, later settling in Gashland. They moved to Smithville in 1983.

Orlo worked as an airline mechanic for Continental Airlines and later TWA.

He was baptized in the Harlem Baptist Church and attended the Barry Christian Church. Orlo was a member of the Cub Scout Pack 412 and Boy Scouts Troop 412 both in Smithville and a member of the Tribe of the Mic-O-Say.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Charles and Don Coakley.

Orlo is survived by his wife, Darlene, of the home, two daughters, Kathleen and husband, Dr. Larry Richards and Susan and husband, Ken Clark, and grandchildren, Ben and Michael Richards, and Ryan and Chelsea Clark, one sister, June Bye, Mission, TX, two sisters-in-law, Bobbie Coakley, Greenwood, IN, and Elaine Coakley, Kansas City, MO, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Funeral Services: 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 12th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville, with visitation from 12:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Burial: Mt. Moriah Terrrace Park, Kansas City, MO.
