Opal Reeves
Opal Marie Reeves, 95, of Independence, MO passed away August 5, 2024.
She was born on April 28, 1929, to Peter Morgan and Martha Elizabeth (Wilson) Boyles in Appleton City, MO. Opal grew up and attended school in Garden City, MO.
On May 11, 1968, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Edison Reeves in Smithville, MO. After their marriage they lived in Independence. In 1974, they moved near Smithville and in 1993, they returned to Independence where they made their home. Her husband, Lawrence, passed away on March 23, 1998.
Opal worked for Lake City Ammunition Plant in Independence and Spelman Hospital in Smithville.
She was member of the Salvation Army Church in Independence, MO and was previously a member of Mt. Olivet Christian Church near Smithville. Opal also enjoyed embroidering and quilting.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Reeves; her sons Clarence “J.R.” LaQuet and Lawrence Wayne “Larry” Reeves; her parents Pete and Martha Boyles, her sister Hazel (Boyles) Bogart; her brother Charles Boyles.
She is survived by her son James Cornell, Lee’s Summit, MO; daughters Shirley Stroud and husband, Jim, Independence, MO, and Linda Reeves, Clinton, MO; eight grandchildren including Sean Reeves, who was raised by Opal and Lawrence; numerous great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Private family services will be held.
Burial will be held at Community of Smithville Memorial Cemetery, Smithville, MO.
