Norman E. “John” George

 

Norman E. “John” George, 78, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away, Friday, December 11, 2009.

He was born on October 9, 1931 to Oscar Perry and Sarah Olive (Anderson) George in Starfield, Missouri, and grew up in the Agency area.

On October 23, 1951 he was united in marriage to Hazel Marie Mann at Langley Field, Virginia, where he served during the Korean War. After their marriage they lived in St. Joseph where they made their home. He worked for Goetz/Pearl Brewery until closing, and then worked in maintenance at the State Hospital. Norman and Marie owned and operated several restaurants in St. Joseph, including Norm’s Courthouse Café. His wife, Marie, passed away May 3, 2005.

Norman attended the Bible Baptist Temple in St. Joseph. He was a member of the Saxton Masonic Lodge AF & AM, the Moila Shrine Temple and the Legion of Honor all in St. Joseph.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Harry, Vernon, and Frank George.

Norman is survived by his son, Kevin George and wife, Esther, Kansas City, MO, daughter, Angela Grevas and husband, Nick, Kansas City, MO, and son, Brian George and wife, Laura, St. Joseph, MO; four grandchildren, Leah, Landis, Blake, and Braden; one brother, Herb George and wife, Wilma, Deepwater, MO; Mary Curran, St. Joseph, MO, and Ruth Kellogg, Kansas City, MO; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 16th at Bible Baptist Temple in St. Joseph.

Burial: Allen Cemetery, Gower, MO.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower.
