Norma Jean Vaughn
Norma Jean Vaughn, known to all as, Jeanie, passed away, peacefully, Friday, July 13, 2007, after a brief battle with lung cancer.
Jeanie was born on July 5, 1938 to Leonard Henry and Nina Mae (Andrews) Wilson in Kansas City, Mo. She grew up in Smithville and in 1956 graduated from Smithville High School.
On May 27, 1961 she was united in marriage to Walt Vaughn in Lawrenceville, Georgia. In 1967 they moved to Smithville where they made their home.
Jeanie worked as an Executive Secretary and was the Executive Director/Public Housing Manager of the Smithville Housing Authority for 23 years before retiring in 2001.
She was a member of the Smithville United Methodist Church where she knitted neo-natal caps for preemies and caps for our soldiers. She was also a member of The Fidelity Rebekah Lodge #286 since 1956.
Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Walt, of the home; daughters, Suzy Vaughn and Debbie Shoaf, both of Smithville and Noela Grant of Maroochydore, Australia and sister-in-law, Linda Sammons, Hiram, Georgia.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 17th at the Smithville United Methodist Church.
BURIAL: I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Smithville.
VISITATION: 5:00-7:00 P.M., Monday at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.
