Nash Mark Meares

 

Nash Mark Meares, 87, of Smithville, MO, passed away, February 26, 2011.

He was born on July 13, 1923 in Council, North Carolina to Lawrence Grey and Flora Collum Meares. He served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946 and was honorably discharged from the Navy Seabees, having received the American Area Camp Medal, Asiatic Pacific Camp Medal, Point System, and Victory Medal.

On June 8, 1946, Nash was united in marriage to Mary Ann (Russell) Meares, after their marriage they lived in Smithville where they made their home. His wife, Mary Ann, passed away October 13, 2002.

Nash was a member of the First Baptist Church of Smithville where he served as Deacon and former Sunday School Superintendent, a 62 year member of the International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #289, a 65 year member of the International Bricklayers and Allied Craft workers #4.

He was a local farmer for over 60 years raising Hereford and Black Angus Cattle.

Nash was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lawrence Meares and Earl Meares and four sisters, Virginia Odom, Mary Kermon, Lillian Miller, and Helen Turner.

He is survived by two daughters, Audrey Payne, Gladstone, MO and Charlotte Meares, of the home; one granddaughter, JoCatherine Rogers and husband, Joshua, Smithville, MO; sister, Pauline Crownhart, Overland Park, KS, sister-in-law, Magdeline Meares; brother-in-law, William Turner; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service: 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 3rd at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville, with visitation one hour prior to service.
