Mildred L. Updegraff

MILDRED L. UPDEGRAFF

Mildred L. (Plowman) Updegraff, 91, of Gower, Mo., formerly of St. Joseph and McFall, Mo., passed away, Saturday, August 26th at the Gower Convalescent Center.

She was born on January 19, 1915 to Jesse Hillman and Mary Elizabeth (Caraway) Plowman near McFall, Missouri where she graduated from High School. Mildred later received her teaching certificate from Maryville State Teacher’s College and taught rural school near McFall for two years.

On April 16, 1938 she was united in marriage to Lloyd Rex Updegraff in Savannah, Mo. After their marriage they lived in ST. Joseph until 1988 when they moved to Gower where they made their home. Her husband, Lloyd passed away on July 21, 1997.

Mildred was a member of the Woodson Chapel Christian Church in St. Joseph and later the Gower Christian Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Pearl Chapter in St. Joseph and served as Associate Mother Advisor of Rainbow Girls and was also a Girl Scout Leader.

Mildred was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lawrence Plowman.

She is survived by one daughter, Marlys Snyder and husband, Gene, Gower, Mo.; one god-child who was raised in the home, Debrah Allen and husband John, Glendale, Arizona; seven grandchildren, Mark, Corey, Ryan and Jill Snyder and Marlys Rogers, John Allen III and Rachel Allen; six great-grandchildren, Avery, Isabelle, Jaden, Drew, Madeline and Dustin; one brother, Wayne Plowman, Cameron, Mo.; one brother-in-law, Richard N. Updegraff, Portland, Oregon, several nieces, nephews, other relatives, many friends and “special friend”, Jo Roady, Gower.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 30th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower.
BURIAL: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, Mo.
VISITATION: 6:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home in Gower.
Donations: Gower Christian Church Building Fund.
