Mike Olson

Michael Wayne Olson, 65, of Smithville, MO passed away June 11, 2023.

He was born on October 20, 1957, to Paul Chester and Edith Lorene (Rash) Olson in Smithville. Mike graduated from Oak Park High School in Kansas City, MO. Michael then served his country in the United State Marine Corps.

On September 30, 1989, he was united in marriage to Rita Ann Bailey. After their marriage they lived in Kansas City, MO and in 2004 they moved to Smithville where they made their home. 

 Mike worked as a machinist for several local companies including Sealright and TWA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. Mike was a craftsman working with anything from leather to wood to steel. He was very passionate about guns, God and country. Above all loved being a husband, dad, grandpa, son, brother, uncle and friend.

He was preceded in death by his father Paul Olson.

Mike is survived by his wife Rita Olson; children Sarah Olson, Dakota Olson, Shelby Olson and Amelia Olson; grandchildren Kyle, Taylor, and Landyon; mother Lorene Olson; brothers Larry Olson and David (Beth) Olson; sisters Paula (Bill) Chriseson, Linda, Donna (Eddie) Lane, and Karen Olson; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

Visitation: 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home in Smithville, MO with Graveside Service and Military Honors at 7:00 p.m. at Paradise Cemetery in Smithville all Monday, June 19th .Donations may be made to KC Pet Project or Megan’s Paws and Claws c/o City of Smithville.
