In Remembrance Of

Michael David Johnson

Michael D. Johnson, 50, of Smithville, MO passed away, peacefully on Sunday, June 12, 2011 after a courageous battle with lung cancer that had spread to his brain.

He was born on January 17, 1961 to David Walter and Elnora Adell (Brenneman) Johnson in Smithville. He graduated from Smithville High School in 1979 and later attended Missouri Western State College. He was retired from the United States Postal Service where he proudly worked as a letter carrier.

Michael was united in marriage to Josephine (Jo Beth) Abbott on December 2, 1995 after a brief courtship. They dated for two months before getting married.

Michael was an avid waterfowl hunter. He constantly shared the beauty of nature and his love of the outdoors with his children. He enjoyed old western movies and loved classic rock, namely Kansas, Boston and Bob Seger.

Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Norman and Elnora Justus and Alfred and Edith Johnson; his uncle, Ralph Brenneman and his brother-in-law, Gene C. Ivey, Jr.

He leaves behind his wife of 15 years, Jo Beth Johnson; his sons, Hayden Johnson and Nicholas Johnson and his daughters, Ava Johnson and Emma Johnson; his sister, Meredith Ivey; his mother, Elnora Monroe; father, David Johnson and his wife, Nancy; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Vince and Sharon Abbott; also his sisters-in-law, Jennifer Licausi and husband Frank and their children, Crystal Garcia and husband Freddie and their children; other relatives and many friends.

Michael never knew a stranger. He was smiling and ready to visit with a firm handshake and the gift of communication. To say he will be greatly missed by all who knew him is an understatement.

My dad was a postal carrier so of course when we became North Lakes Meadows mortgagees nine years ago tomorrow, we got to know our postal carriers on our route. Mike Johnson was our utility carrier until a few months ago, and was one of the dearest, best people and always took care of us. He loved and took great pride in the USPS — but his wife and children were the jewels in his crown!

We loved him dearly – our strong, positive, determined, loving, friendly, always smiling Mike. We will sorely miss Mike, but we will carry him and his family in our hearts wherever we go.
