Michael Aaron Gerling
Michael Aaron Gerling, 26, of Edgerton, MO passed away July 4, 2016.
He was born on July 6, 1989 to Rik and Sheila (Lieneman) Gerling in St. Joseph, MO. Michael grew up in Hiawatha, KS, St. Joseph, MO and in 2004 the family settled in Edgerton, MO. In 2008 he graduated from North Platte High School in Dearborn where he wrestled. He enjoyed cooking and listening to music.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents Wilbur Lieneman and Sue Yarbrough.
He is survived by his son Maddox Gerling; his parents Rik and Sheila Gerling; brother Cody Gerling; sister Brittney Gerling; grandparents Bill and Karen Gerling, Ruth Lieneman and Ed and Carol Schweder; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many friends.
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 Friday July 8th at North Platte High School, Dearborn
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday July 9th at North Platte High School, Dearborn
Burial: Rose Hill Cemetery, Robinson, KS
Arrangements by Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Edgerton.

Its hard for me to do this…. I didn’t know Michael long at all. I met him in June of this year… He understood me like no one else did. He knew things I didn’t tell anyone… Our adventures we had was amazing.. Such as trying to find the old saw mill and getting lost in the woods… I don’t understand why he it I really don’t… I wish he talked to me or anyone so we could help. I send you love and good vibes. I'm going to miss you Michael, I know it's been a long time since we have talked or seen each other but I will cherish our highschool memories together, riding the bus to wrestling tournaments, afternoons of playing guitar hero and working together at subway. I met Michael & Cody at the same time, through dear friends of mine, their parents. They were 5 & 6 yrs old I believe. They were 2 of the most orneriest well behaved boys I’ve met. They were always busy wrestling eachother they didn’t get into anything else. They were buddies and they looked up to their father who looked back on them with gleam in his eye & a half smirk on his face. The look of pride a father has who loves his children. And the mother, always preparing either meals, laundry, baths, or beds. Always seemed happy to do so as one who loves her family does. Never burdensome as it can be at times. I truly loved it! I admired it! And I witnessed it every day for some time! It was inspiring to me, but it didn’t stop there. I’ve met both sides of the family as I was priveleged to go to family events. Such large families displaying such closeness, one can only be filled with joy! This is so hard on everyone and you can only feel helpless. Rik & Shiela, may I say, you guys have a huge impact in my life. These memories seem like yesterday. I’ll never forget you. As much as I wish to comfort you, you’ve comforted me! Rik when you say “I will see you again” it reminds me there is hope. Don’t ever loose hope! I love you all!! Always your friend, Caleb.

Michael and I met back in 2010, we both worked at Jimmy John’s.. Instantly Mike and I became friends, and friends became boyfriend and girlfriend. Mike and I dated for about a year and a half. I became close with Kelsey and Becky. And the family were also nice. Although we ended things in not so nice ways, he still would crop up and share his life updates. I was proud that he was going through life and making the best out of it. Mike had a rough go at things but still managed to get a grip and accept his faults. It was so sad to hear what had happened and my prayers are with Rik, Sheila, Cody, and Brittany during this time and the rest of his family. My sincerest condolences.
