Meredith Eugene Darlington

Meredith Eugene Darlington, 81, of Kearney, MO, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2011.

He was born on November 11, 1929 to John Meredith and Mabel (Perrell) Darlington in Martinsburg, West Virginia where he grew up. After his father’s death, his mother and step-father, Harry A. Airy moved to Hagerstown where he attended school. He then served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Berlin Airlift as a Radio Operator on various military aircraft. After his honorable discharge he worked for Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown.

On November 18, 1950 he was united in marriage to Doris Mae Cunningham. After their marriage they lived in Hagerstown, Maryland. Meredith then began his career with Monumental Life Insurance Company as a Field Auditor. He and his family relocated with Meredith‘s work to Baltimore, MD, Louisville, KY, St. Louis, MO, St. Joseph, MO, and retiring in Kearney, MO.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kearney, the Air Force Association, and the Kentucky Colonels. He was an honorary member of the Mt. Moriah Lodge, past master of the Sharon Lodge #182, and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon all in Maryland; the High Twelve Club # 49, Scottish Rites, York Rites, and the Masonic Lodge all in St. Joseph, MO and the VFW Post #5717 in Kearney.

Meredith was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, daughter, Cindy Leigh Darlington and one sister, Marvis Darlington.

He is survived by wife, Doris, of the home; son, H. Meredith “Mert” Darlington and wife, Julie, Kearney, MO; grandchildren, Meredith C. Darlington, Kurtis M. Darlington, Rebecca J. Seuell and husband, Nick, and Liana V. Darlington; great-grandchildren, Isabella and Audrianna Darlington; other relatives and many friends.

Visitation: 2:00-4:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 8th with Masonic Service and Funeral Service starting at 4:30 p.m. all at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower.

Burial: Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown, Maryland.
