Melvin Smith
Melvin Smith, 89, of Kansas City, MO passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015.
He was born on October 17, 1925 to Otto and Florence (Jacks) Smith in Kansas City, KS where he grew up and attended school. He then served his country in the US Marines Corps as a Merchant Seaman for eleven years.
On August 31, 1963 he was united in marriage to Barbara. After their marriage they lived in Gladstone, MO where they made their home.
Melvin worked for Phillips Petroleum and retired from GM Motors both in Kansas City. He was a member of the American Legion in Gladstone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Otto Smith, Jr., sister-in-law Katie Smith, sister Betty Smith, and son-in-law Larry Glossip.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Smith; children, Ann Willis, Pam Brown, and Rick Florence and wife Tammy; grandchildren, Walt Willis, Amy Weber and husband Rodney, Jason Brown, Jesse Brown and wife Betsy, Shane Florence and wife Kassidi, and Sam Florence and wife Alyssa; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Emma, Ellie, Chase, Karlie, Mckinley, and Eisley; brother, Jack Smith; several nieces and nephews other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 13th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville
Visitation: 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday January 12th at the funeral home.
Burial with Military Honors: White Chapel Cemetery, Gladstone, MO
Donations may be made to Paradise Baptist Church.
