Melvin Neal Evans

 

Melvin Neal Evans, 77, of Smithville, MO passed away April 26, 2014. 

 

He was born on September 29, 1936 to Lloyd and Nora (Hicklin) Evans in Perry, MO and later graduated from Mexico High School in Mexico, MO.  Melvin then served his country it the US Navy.

 

In July 1955 he was united in marriage to Bonnie Brooks.  After their marriage they lived in Independence, MO and in 1972 they moved to Smithville where they made their home.

 

Melvin retired from TWA after over 35 years of service.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Smithville where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher and was recently honored as a Deacon Emeritus.  Melvin was also a member of the Smithville American Legion Post #58.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Linda Sparks, grandson Russell Neal Harlow, brother James Evans and sister Nina Couch.

 

Melvin is survived by his wife Bonnie Evans; daughter Debora Harlow and husband Larry; grandchildren, Kendra (Harlow) Soileau and husband Todd, Matthew Jennings and Lauren Marie Sparks; great-granddaughter, Kaylynn Soileau.

 

Visitation:  10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday May 3rd at First Baptist Church in Smithville with Funeral Services following at 11:00 a.m.

Donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Smithville or the Ridgely Cemetery
