Maxine E. (Prewitt) Wilkerson
Maxine E. Wilkerson, 92, of Gower, MO, passed away, Thursday, September 1, 2011.
She was born on December 6, 1918 to Rev. George T. and Ethel (Elliott) Prewitt in Gower, MO. She graduated high school in Perryton, Texas. Maxine then attended Northwest Missouri State University for 2 years.
On July 10, 1939 she was united in marriage to Thomas Lee Wilkerson. They lived in the Chillicothe area, in 1941 they moved to Kansas City, and in 1950 they moved near Gower where they made their home. Her husband passed away, May 13, 1994.
She was a Baptist and loved the Lord. Maxine -was member of the First Baptist Church in Gower where she taught Sunday School for many years. She loved her chocolate pie and wrote a poem about it and gave a copy to Harmers Café and her Sunday School Class. Maxine raised Boston Terriers and won many trophies and blue ribbons. She wrote poetry and was published in the Book of National Poet Society and won Honorable Mention.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Most of all she loved her children, mother will be missed by her son, Bud Wilkerson and wife Joyce, Gower; daughters, Kay Wilson and husband Erwin, Joplin, and Donna Chisholm Zaroor and husband, Dan, Gower; granddaughters, Tammi, Heather, and Misty; two great-grandchildren, Matt and Gillian; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10th at the First Baptist Church in Gower.
Burial: Allen Cemetery
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the church.
Donations: Gower Baptist Church Building Fund.
