In Remembrance Of

Matt Snook

Matthew Derek Snook, 51, of Camden Point, MO passed away August 15, 2024 in his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Matt was born June 29, 1973, to Earl and Dianne Snook in St. Joseph, MO. Matt was a 1991 graduate of North Platte R1 High School where he excelled in basketball, baseball and football.  After graduation he attended William Jewell College in Liberty, MO where he played basketball and graduated in 1995. In June of 1995, he married his high school sweetheart, Stephanie.  Matt and Stephanie were blessed with 2 sons, Austin and Westin.

Matt was dedicated to helping others. From coaching little league basketball for both of his sons, to assisting in baseball and football little league teams as both boys were growing up in the North Platte community. He had a huge and lasting impact on many youth that grew up in the North Platte area.

Matt worked as a Project Manager for Sprint for 12 years where he became a Certified Project Management Professional in 2001.  Matt decided to pursue his passion and career in music and left his position at Sprint and he and the family moved to Nashville for two years, where Matt made many lifelong music connections, wrote many songs, and met lifelong family friends. When returning to Kansas City, he and his band performed countless festivals, fairs and traveled performing across the United States. He was asked to perform the National Anthem several times through the years and was proud to perform for Gold Star Families, Military Events, Professional Sporting Events including numerous times for the Kansas City Royals, and for the US Open.

Matt’s servant heart led him to a lifelong passion of volunteering and assisting many organizations including the Troops First Foundation, Musicians on Call, America’s Huey 091 Foundation, Camp Quality, Snowball Express and countless others. He made trips overseas to perform for our troops, attended several events supporting Gold Star Families, made trips throughout the US to perform for our injured military personnel, trips to hospitals and causes to perform for terminally ill children, and was always available and willing to help when he was asked to assist anyone in need. The impact he has left on so many will never be forgotten.

In July of 2024, he was awarded the prestigious Meritorious Public Service Medal by the United States Department of the Army for his distinguished voluntary service to the men and women who proudly serve our nation. His profound impact echoes far beyond the realms of music, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of all who have had the privilege of crossing paths with him.

Matt’s attitude for life was contagious.  His advice to his wife, sons and others was often “Ask yourself, What do you want? What is the Plan…are you working the plan? And most of all, are you happy in your adventure?” We hope that everyone can learn from Matt on sharing love for others and his perseverance of happiness.

His family, friends and all who had the pleasure to meet him will miss him immensely but his legacy will live through us all. “May we all continue to walk gently through our days. “

Matt was preceded in death by his father Earl. Matt is survived by his wife of  29 years, Stephanie; his two sons Austin (Logan) of Cheyenne, WY and Westin of Camden Point, MO ;  his mother Dianne Snook of Edgerton, MO; his brothers Michael (Jennifer) of Dearborn, MO, Mark (Cindy) of Lake City, FL and Nate (Emilee) of Platte City, MO; Nephews and Niece – Joshua (Ali) of Elkins, AR, Jared (Brianna) of Plattsburg, MO, Jordan (Jason) of St Joseph, MO, Dylan (Felicia) of Panama City Beach, FL and Wyatt of Panama City Beach, FL, Nate (Ronni) West of Moberly, MO Alden (Nicki) West of Eilson Air Force Base, AL. , several loving aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous close friends.

    Matt,

From the moment we met that night at the Billy Block show, we forged a lifelong friendship and mutual respect, in a town that had a lot of uncertainties, with people in suits who didn’t have our best interest’s in mind. We were a part of a brotherhood and looked out and supported each other no matter what hurdle we were handed.
I feel so blessed to be able to call you a friend and that I was lucky enough to know your wonderful family. We shared a lot of fun out on the road and in Nashville. Your heart was always as big as your voice. You were not only someone I looked up to but loved like a brother. You’re a true rockstar my friend, and I know the angles are loving that heavenly voice and smile. Rest easy brother, you’re the best.

    Love -CT

Sending our deepest condolences to you all. Matt was one in a million. He always knew you and said hi! When we saw each other we always discussed the boys and how their military careers were going. Matt never hesitated to assist where he could when doing benefits for others. He will never be forgotten.

Matt befriended my terminally ill son on MySpace years back. Sent my son a bunch of autograph photos and CD’s. My first time meeting Matt was at my son’s funeral in the middle of a Ks blizzard. He helped push vehicles out of the ditch and stood in the cold to honor my son. I had the chance to hangout with Matt in Nashville that year. He kept his eyes out for all the females in our group. Made sure they made it back to their vehicles safely in the dark. He was constantly being mistaken for another country singer. Matt just smiled and sang whatever song request they made. Right there where every they stopped him. Matt also stepped up to help me host a benefit for a child with CF. And then he showed up to sing at a benefit for me when I got my kidney diagnoses. He was the purest, kindest person with humorous wisdom. I will miss him. I send my love and deepest condolences to Stephanie and his family. Thank you for being such an inspiration in my life Matt. Rest well dear friend.

Matt’s voice was a gift from God and he is singing with the heavenly angels.
I first heard of his talent when he sang the national anthem at a Royals game. It was the most perfect sound and was so heartfelt. I literally had goosebumps.
Sending his loved ones my deepest condolences. A huge loss for sure.

My sister arranged with Matt Snook to provide music at our Dad’s 90 birthday at the convalescent center in Gower a few years ago. Matt’s Dad provided some great stories about our Dad and Matt sang for the entire group at the nursing home. We tried to pay him for his time but he refused. It was Dad’s last birthday and looking back I know it was special for him to hear all the gospel music Matt sang. With much appreciation and condolences we eulogize the character of this special man.

Met Matt when booking acts and open mics. Twice, I called on Matt to perform for Veterans. Neither time would he accept the money offered for the gigs. What a fine American who walked the walk. A terrific musician and a delightful human being who touched many lives in his way too short time on earth. You are sadly missed and loved beyond belief by many.

I am shaken to read of Matt’s passing and it is heartbreaking news. It’s been a while since we crossed paths physically, though every so often we’d share a phone call and catch-up. I have many special memories of working with Matt on Troops First endeavors and of our many wonderful, enlightening, and personal conversations during those trips and afterwards. He was a class act, a gentleman, and a very good, generous, empathic, human being. He was a straight arrow. It’s a tragic loss as we could use more people like him in our present world. Deepest condolences to Stephanie and the family.

Stephanie and the boys so sorry for your loss. Just to let you know how we met your husband/dad. I live in a very old house about 130 Years old. We bought the house, knowing that the roof needed to be done and it took me 12 Years to find a man who would climb up this steep roof. I was so lucky that he had crewmembers that would do it for him but the day that I met your husband/dad was the best day of my life. He was able to restore my home and then he obliged My Mom by playing his guitar on her porch. I have that video which we will cherish always. We will be attending the funeral to show our respects.

Thanks for sharing Kameo! I knew he chose to stop treatment because of the side effects. I knew it was a matter of time 🥹. He and his family have been on my prayer list for some time and although I didn’t personally know them, I kept up with the post and lots of prayers, so I feel like I did. Stephine and family I spent many hours on the poker table with Matt. A true gentleman and great competitor on the felt. Win or loose he was considered a winner. My wife and I also went out of our way to listen to his music mostly at the winery. I always liked it when Matt would sing How great thou are letting the crowd know that Jesus Christ is a live in his heart.
    God Bless

And he had an impact on everyone’s lives as everyone is saying. May God’s peace rest upon his family!
