Mary Patricia (Scruggs) Fatino

 

Mary Pat Fatino, 85, of Smithville, MO, passed away, Tuesday, September 11, 2012.

She was born on March 11, 1927 to Thomas Wesley and Mary Agnes (Fitzgerald) Scruggs in Memphis, TN. She grew up in Memphis and where she graduated from St. Agnes Academy. She then attended The Memphis Academy of The Arts After her graduation she worked as a commercial artist. She then married Paul Vescovo in December of 1948. They had five children between 1950-1956.

In 1957 Mary Pat and her husband, Dr. Paul Vescovo moved their family to Smithville where they made their home. In 1964 they moved to Kansas City. After her children were older, she continued her own education. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy at Rockhurst College graduating Suma Cum Laude and was Valedictorian of her class. Mary Pat later acquired her Master’s Degree in Communication Studies at UMKC.

She was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Mary Pat was past president of the PTA at St. Therese’s in Parkville, MO. She was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Sigma Nu.

Mary Pat was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Karen Vescovo. She is survived by her children, Beth Couch, Wichita, KS, Paul Vescovo and wife Barbara, Smithville, MO, Patrick Vescovo, Kansas City, MO, Joseph Vescovo and wife Pam, Leavenworth, KS; grandchildren, five grandchildren, Darren Couch and wife Patricia, Amanda Vescovo, Katherine Pippen and husband Greg, Laura Beth Davenport, Brandon Vescovo; great-grandchildren, Avianna, Avryn, Avalyse, Rainey, Oak, Tyler, Paige, Kaylyn, Kadince, Cole, Layla, Colin, and Lilly; two sisters, Miriam Kavangh and husband Joe and Tommye Claire Carini and husband Dominic; other relatives and many friends.

Mass of Christian Burial: 9:00 a.m. Saturday, September 15th at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Smithville.

Burial: Resurrection Cemetery, Kansas City, MO

Rosary: 6:00 p.m. Friday at the church with Visitation following until 8:30 p.m.
